GAVI's investment is saving lives today… and building a sustainable framework to protect and save millions more lives tomorrow.

CEO Julian Lob-Levyt shares his vision for a rapid scaling up of GAVI's achievements for children.

"It took Europe 150 years to achieve the improvements in child health that the GAVI Alliance can, with broad support, achieve in the poorest countries within 10 to 15 years."

Because of the GAVI Alliance:

  • 123 million children have been protected against hepatitis B
  • 26 million children have been protected against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis
  • 20 million children have been protected against Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib)
  • 18 million children have been protected against yellow fever

Alliance-supported initiatives have also reduced the incidence of measles in Africa by more than 90 percent. GAVI has protected thousands more children by distributing 1.2 billion single-use disposable syringes. And because immunization cannot take place in a vacuum, the GAVI Alliance is dedicating more than $800 million to help countries pay for health care personnel, logistics, and infrastructure that deliver vaccines and other basic health services.
