For too long, markets worked against vaccinating the world’s poorest children. The GAVI Alliance has made markets our allies.

Two modern marketplaces are central to our work: the market for vaccine development and global financial markets. In both cases, we have proven it’s possible to cut through red tape and reach children in need.

We create market incentives for vaccine manufacturers. We secure predictable, long-term funding for health programs. Our global reach and purchasing power creates additional efficiencies and opportunities.

GAVI partner UNICEF buys vaccines in bulk to supply 72 countries at the lowest possible prices. More than 30 percent of these vaccines now come from India, Brazil, Indonesia, and other developing country manufacturers. As suppliers increase, prices decline - for example, the price of the combined DTP-Hepatitis B vaccine has dropped by 40 percent since 2001.
