“We are committed to saving the lives and improving the health of our most precious national resource – our children. With the introduction of the [pneumococcal] vaccine, our goal of significantly reducing child death in Rwanda will now be within reach.”
— Dr. Richard Sezibera, Minister of Health, Rwanda
The GAVI Campaign is a US public charity whose mission is to support the work of the GAVI Alliance, a Geneva-based public-private partnerships that provides vaccines to children in the world’s poorest countries. Since its launch in 2000, the GAVI Alliance has helped immunize more than 440 million children, saving 6 million lives.
The benefits of immunization go even further, not only saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health, but also conferring significant educational and economic benefits for developing countries. Harvard economists David Bloom and David Canning looked at the GAVI model and estimated an internal rate of return of more than 12 percent with the potential to top 18 percent by 2020. Read More
Immunization is one of the most cost-effective investments in public health and global development. For example, pneumonia and diarrhea are the world’s two leading killers of children under the age of five. Yet these deaths are completely preventable through vaccines provided to developing countries through the GAVI Alliance.
The GAVI Alliance – with support from the GAVI Campaign – has committed to supporting the introduction and wide-scale use of these new vaccines in the world's poorest countries, as well as many other underused and routine childhood vaccines. Please consider a gift today to help us ensure that all children have equitable access to immunization.
